NEW ASPHALT PAVING

Asphalt pavement is utilized in a variety of different applications because of its durability, cost-effectiveness, simplicity of construction, strength and tax benefit. It is the material of choice for parking lots across the nation because asphalt withstands heavier loads and, when combined with proper asphalt maintenance, lasts for many years.  On our new asphalt projects we provide subgrade cutting/adding and compaction. In some cases when the existing subgrade is not of high quality, we may treat it with hydrated lime to make it more favorable to compaction.

We only use commercial grade crushed caliche and always compact it a higher percentage than the required standard compaction. We compact caliche to ½” above the elevation required in order to cut excess material, making sure that any small dips are eliminated on our final cut.  Excess material is hauled away at our expense.

We always mark our paving lines prior to paving in order to pave at appropriate machine widths so that all the job is done with the machine and seams are smooth and tight. It takes speed and precision laying the material in a timely manner while also managing truck loads to arrive on time according to the speed we are paving. This ensures us that all the material we are laying is as hot as possible, giving the best finished look and durability.

Asphalt Repair & Patching

Patching is a common asphalt repair on areas of pavement with potholes. Potholes occur when water sits in an area for longer than 24 hours when it begins to seep into the caliche making it soft. When a vehicle drives over this soft area the asphalts gives or pumps up and down. This causes cracks and eventually deteriorates asphalt altogether creating a pothole. This same effect can be caused by sprinklers watering the asphalt daily.  This is why South Texas Paving adjusts sprinklers after we pave a new or repaired area. It is then the customers job to keep them in check, because we do not cover daily sprinkler water damage in the warranty.

Asphalt Repair Procedure

This process consists of filling the affected areas with hot asphalt mix.  For a longer lasting result affected areas may be sawcut, removed and replaced at the correct grade.  This method may be more expensive, however, coupled with a heavy sealcoat it can be a permanent fix.

Asphalt Removal & Replacement

As asphalt pavement progresses through its performance lifecycle, its appearance diminishes over time. Fine hairline cracks spread and deepen within the asphalt. Without ongoing maintenance, water may enter through cracks and holes may form, undermining the substrate. In this case, the most effective form of repair is to remove and replace the deteriorated area.
